NEURODIVERSITY-AFFIRMING SUPPORT
Vanessa's availability for new clients requiring therapy support is currently limited. You are welcome to enquire if you would like to be placed on her waitlist.
Neurodivergent people may need mental health support to cope with the stressors of living in a neurotypical world and find ways to thrive on their own terms. Neurodivergent people do not need fixing.
Vanessa's therapy approach is neurodiversity-affirming which involves understanding neurodivergent neurotypes as different expressions of normal human functioning rather than developmental deficits, whilst recognising the disabilities Autistic and ADHD individuals experience due to barriers in their neurotypical environments (and working to make these more inclusive). Vanessa's approach is also LGBTQIA+ inclusive, trauma-informed, collaborative, and respectful of the neurodivergent person's values, preferred ways of communicating, and personal goals.
Vanessa supports Autistic and ADHD clients across the lifespan who would like support in various areas, including:
-
anxiety
-
depression
-
OCD
-
self-esteem
-
emotional regulation
-
Autistic burnout
-
self-advocacy
-
understanding their neurodivergent brain via an affirming lens
-
executive functioning (e.g., organisation, motivation, self-regulation) differences
Vanessa also supports parents in enhancing their understanding of their neurodivergent children's unique ways of relating, recognising that their "challenging behaviours" are really stress responses, and responding in a supportive, collaborative way.
